Caldwell County is located Southeast of Austin off of Hwy 183. The seat of Caldwell County is the city of Lockhart. The City of Lockhart is located approximately 25 miles South of Austin on Highway 183. Many of the residences commute to Austin for employment but some are farmers, local business owners or are in the oil field related business.

The Bar B Que Capitol of Texas
Caldwell County is an area South East of Austin Texas. Its County Seat is Lockhart, the Texas State Legislature deemed it as the Bar B Que Capitol of Texas. The four famous restaurants are in no particular order Black’s Bar B Que, Smitty’s, Kreuz and Chisholm Trail. Ask any of the locals which one is the best and are likely to get an answer of either of the four restaurants. In Lockhart they take their Bar B Que serious.
